Holiday Inn Express Cape Town City Centre, an IHG Hotel, hotel in Cape Town

It's just a 15 minute drive from Cape Town International Airport to our lively downtown location, set on a tree-lined street packed with restaurants, art galleries, markets, cafes and bars.

Stayed here for 2 nights pre-cruise. The buffet breakfast was the best ever! Lots of choices, including hot & cold foods, fresh fruits, & yummy croissants. They only do breakfast, so had to find other meals at other places. Burger place a few doors to the left from the hotel door closed early; restaurant across the street from hotel front door was good, if a bit pricey. I needed an adapter to charge my various electronics - asked at front desk, & they had plug adapter I could use: it was "charged to my room, & then refunded when it was returned"... & the cost didn't appear on my checking-out bill.

FAQ about luxury hotels in Cape Town

Cool, Colorful Cape

Between mountains and beaches, the 2nd largest city in South Africa mixes history, resilient modernity, and a typical laidback African character. From the top of Table Mountain to the colourful Bo Kaap quarter, and from the Victoria & Albert Waterfront to the modern business district, Cape Town blends multicultural influences and beautiful nature.

Known as Kaapstad in Afrikaans, its sunny weather and mild temperatures make it a perfect place to enjoy the large number of beaches that surround it. From Sunset Beach to Hout Bay, and from Simon’s Town to Gordon Bay, this city offers variety that suits all tastes. Whale and dolphin watching is a popular activity in False Bay.

Located on the Cape of Good Hope, the city was founded in 1652 by a Dutch trading company as a way-station for ships travelling to the East Indies. With the settlement process, all sorts of foreign plants were introduced, including the grapes in the famous Cape Winelands District, just outside of Cape Town.

Cape Town’s history does have some darker periods, and some of its memorable places from this time deserve to be visited: Robben Island jail, the City Hall from which Nelson Mandela gave his first public speech, and the statues of the 4 South African Nobel Peace Prize winners on the V&A Waterfront.

It's easy to be a tourist in Cape Town, even if you live there. There is always a new adventure waiting and the endlessly beautiful views never get old. In Fish Hoek, Fish Hoek Fisheries is always a treat especially after a long day that didn't include a dinner plan. We discovered a few gems - Jazz at Simon's Town Golf Club on the first Sunday of every month, and a delightful pond-side tea garden just past Scarborough called The Scone Shack. But be prepared to go with the flow and take a stroll around the garden to find your waiter if you're feeling forgotten. It's a place to slow right down and breathe because the scones and charmingly eclectic teapots and cups are well worth waiting for.

Cape Town is just the most wonderful city for visitors and tourists. I love the good condition that the major public areas are in. The roads are in great condition, well marked and sign-posted. Signage is around for everything. While it is a busy city, I always find it very easy to get around in. There is so much to do and see and some world class shopping malls. It is always sad when I need to leave Cape Town, I can never have too much time there.

Cape Town is a city of contrasts, where the natural and the man-made blend together in a mesmerizing symphony of beauty and sophistication. This South African gem nestles at the foot of Table Mountain and is surrounded by the glistening waters of the Atlantic Ocean, offering breathtaking panoramic views that will leave you speechless. This property is located perfectly in the middle of the waterfront district. It is excellent value. The hotel was safe and well-equipped. We did not have an opportunity to try the restaurants. The room was functional but just what we needed. Other accommodations in the area were more traditional and perhaps better appointed but they were also twice the price or more. Unless you plan on sitting in your room, this is where you should stay. Parking was also easy and excellent.

Everything! The hotel is very clean and the restaurant/bar are excellent. The breakfast is varied and enjoyable, and the buffet never feels to busy. The staff at this hotel are absolutely fantastic; thank you very much to Denver for his help with my TV and David at reception for the assistance with my room. The staff here are truly excellent! This hotel is always an absolute treat! While I always do a fresh search for hotels in Cape Town, from the location to the friendliness of the staff; the beautiful grounds; spaciousness and room comfort - it's no surprise I revert to staying there. This time we took our baby along and he was accommodated for very well in the clean and comfy camper cot - and he particularly enjoyed the indoor swimming pool. It's rare that a hotel can excel in so many aspects!

De Waterkant is probably the best place to stay in Cape Town: a cute, friendly, very safe area with no load shedding and conveniently located right between V&A Waterfront and Long Street. The people running the Jarvis House were all extremely friendly throughout the stay. The shared kitchen area was extremely convenient with free coffee, fridge, and microwave oven and the shared courtyard was a nice place to sit and to get to meet the other guests.
